Evidence Binderthe free audit-evidence library, and the binder you build from it

An honest comparison. Where each option is better.

Evidence Binder compared with the alternatives

A consultant preparing an ISO 27001 or SOC 2 evidence pack has four realistic routes: this library, a free checklist template, a compliance platform, or your own spreadsheet and a colleague's memory. Here is where each is better, plainly.

Compliance platforms (for example Vanta, Drata, Secureframe)

They are better when you want evidence collected automatically by connecting to your cloud, not just listed: they run the continuous checks, hold the integrations and produce the auditor-facing report for a SOC 2 or ISO 27001 programme end to end. This library is better when you want the clause-level evidence requirement, the common gaps and the cross-framework link in one place, with no account and no integration, especially for a single engagement or a client you are preparing by hand. They are not mutually exclusive: use the platform to collect, use the library to know what to collect and to map it across both frameworks.

Free checklist templates (for example Smartsheet, and ISO 27001 checklist tools)

They are better when you want a familiar spreadsheet you can copy and start typing into straight away, with no learning curve. This library is better when you need each requirement cited to its clause, the evidence the held text describes, the common gaps and the reviewed ISO to SOC 2 overlap; a template gives you a column heading, not the requirement or the overlap.

Your own spreadsheet and a colleague who has done it before

They are better when the scope is small and the person has done this exact audit before; nothing beats an experienced person who knows your systems. This library is better when you need completeness and a citation for every line, and when you want to hand a client something traceable rather than a home-made sheet with no sources.

What this library does not do

It does not collect evidence for you, does not test controls, does not perform the audit, and does not certify. It is a preparation aid, and it says so on every page. If you need collection, choose a platform; if you need the reading and the map, this is that.

What is free, and what you pay for

The whole library and the request-list generator are free. You pay only for the binder: the organised pack with owners, work status, the deduplicated evidence list, the reviewed cross-framework links, source citations and working exports. See the pricing.
