ISO 27001:2022 8.3: Information access restriction
ISO 27001:2022 8.3 covers Information access restriction. The held text names 5 evidence records for it, the first being Statement of Applicability entry for control A.8.3, showing inclusion or justified exclusion, implementation status and the risks it.... The common gap an assessor flags is Cloud storage or file shares allow anonymous access to sensitive data.
The organization is to limit who can reach information and associated assets, following its established access control policy. Purpose (stated in ISO/IEC 27002:2022): ensures only authorized access to information and associated assets and prevents unauthorized access. As an Annex A reference control, it is compared with the controls determined in risk treatment (6.1.3 c) and recorded in the Statement of Applicability as included or excluded, with the justification and implementation status (6.1.3 d); implementation guidance is ISO/IEC 27002:2022 8.3.
What evidence supports 8.3?
- Annex A technological controlStatement of Applicability entry for control A.8.3, showing inclusion or justified exclusion, implementation status and the risks it treats
- Annex A technological controlSystem, application and cloud storage configurations restricting access by identity or group, with granular permissions per action
- Annex A technological controlEvidence that anonymous or public access is limited to locations holding no sensitive information, for example storage bucket access reviews
- Annex A technological controlIsolation of sensitive applications, data or systems through physical or logical segmentation
- Annex A technological controlRules and configuration for dynamic access management or rights management on high-value information (identity, device, location, time limits, printing, encryption)
Where this requirement comes from
This is our own statement of ISO 27001:2022 8.3, read from the copy we hold (licensed complete copy) and stated in our words, not the standard verbatim. The framework as we hold it.
Common gaps an assessor flags
- Cloud storage or file shares allow anonymous access to sensitive data
- Permissions are granted to broad groups such as all staff
- Sensitive documents shared externally cannot be revoked or tracked
- Delete and execute permissions are granted where only read is needed
How it maps to SOC 2
- CC6.1 high Information access restriction enforces access over protected assets.
- P5.1 high Information access restriction limits personal data to authorised personnel.
A link is a topical overlap with a confidence and a reason. It does not establish that meeting one requirement satisfies the other, and it is not certification.
