ISO 27001:2022 8.29: Security testing in development and acceptance
ISO 27001:2022 8.29 covers Security testing in development and acceptance. The held text names 5 evidence records for it, the first being Statement of Applicability entry for control A.8.29, showing inclusion or justified exclusion, implementation status and the risks it.... The common gap an assessor flags is Security testing is skipped for minor releases that still change security functions.
Security testing processes are to be defined and carried out within the development life cycle. Purpose (stated in ISO/IEC 27002:2022): checks that code and applications satisfy security requirements before they reach production. As an Annex A reference control, it is compared with the controls determined in risk treatment (6.1.3 c) and recorded in the Statement of Applicability as included or excluded, with the justification and implementation status (6.1.3 d); implementation guidance is ISO/IEC 27002:2022 8.29.
What evidence supports 8.29?
- Annex A technological controlStatement of Applicability entry for control A.8.29, showing inclusion or justified exclusion, implementation status and the risks it treats
- Annex A technological controlSecurity test plans with schedules, inputs, expected outputs, evaluation criteria and decisions, scaled to the system's importance and change impact
- Annex A technological controlSecurity test results covering authentication, access restriction, cryptography, secure coding and configuration
- Annex A technological controlIndependent acceptance test records including code review, vulnerability scanning and penetration test findings
- Annex A technological controlRecords verifying that security defects were remediated before go-live
Where this requirement comes from
This is our own statement of ISO 27001:2022 8.29, read from the copy we hold (licensed complete copy) and stated in our words, not the standard verbatim. The framework as we hold it.
Common gaps an assessor flags
- Security testing is skipped for minor releases that still change security functions
- Developers test their own code with no independent acceptance testing
- Penetration test findings are released into production unresolved
- Test environments differ significantly from production, so results are unreliable
How it maps to SOC 2
- CC4.1 medium Security testing in development evaluates software, not the control environment.
- CC8.1 high Security testing in development and acceptance is the test and approve step.
A link is a topical overlap with a confidence and a reason. It does not establish that meeting one requirement satisfies the other, and it is not certification.
