ISO 27001:2022 8.22: Segregation of networks
ISO 27001:2022 8.22 covers Segregation of networks. The held text names 5 evidence records for it, the first being Statement of Applicability entry for control A.8.22, showing inclusion or justified exclusion, implementation status and the risks it.... The common gap an assessor flags is A flat network lets any workstation reach servers and management interfaces.
Within its networks the organization is to keep groups of users, information services and information systems apart. Purpose (stated in ISO/IEC 27002:2022): divides the network along security boundaries and governs traffic across them by business need. As an Annex A reference control, it is compared with the controls determined in risk treatment (6.1.3 c) and recorded in the Statement of Applicability as included or excluded, with the justification and implementation status (6.1.3 d); implementation guidance is ISO/IEC 27002:2022 8.22.
What evidence supports 8.22?
- Annex A technological controlStatement of Applicability entry for control A.8.22, showing inclusion or justified exclusion, implementation status and the risks it treats
- Annex A technological controlNetwork segmentation design defining domains by trust, criticality, sensitivity or organizational unit, with the assessment that justified it
- Annex A technological controlFirewall or filtering router rules controlling traffic between domains, with rule review records
- Annex A technological controlEvidence that sensitive environments treat wireless as external and route it through a gateway
- Annex A technological controlConfiguration showing guest wireless separated from staff networks with restrictions at least as strict
Where this requirement comes from
This is our own statement of ISO 27001:2022 8.22, read from the copy we hold (licensed complete copy) and stated in our words, not the standard verbatim. The framework as we hold it.
Common gaps an assessor flags
- A flat network lets any workstation reach servers and management interfaces
- Guest WiFi has fewer restrictions than staff WiFi, so staff use it to bypass controls
- Inter-domain rules have become overly permissive 'any-any' rules
- Partner network connections land inside internal networks without a gateway
How it maps to SOC 2
- CC6.6 high Segregation of networks limits external threat reach into the environment.
A link is a topical overlap with a confidence and a reason. It does not establish that meeting one requirement satisfies the other, and it is not certification.
